Boomtreebees
Log hives, natural beehives, honeybee conservation, research and education
The Native Irish Honeybee (Apis Mellifera mellifera) is a unique part of our natural and cultural heritage. In today's landscape, free-living colonies have to deal with many external pressures and their survival is under threat. Boomtreebees works to sustain this lineage by creating semi-natural habitats, raising awareness and supporting conservation efforts across Ireland.
Honeybees' natural nesting habitat are tree cavities, which are becoming scarcer in the Irish landscape. The specially designed log hives produced at Boomtreebees mimic this habitat as closely as possible.
With the two designs of log hives, it allows us the assess each site to see which design is most suitable for its particular landscape.
Throughout the year Boomtreebees provide workshops/ talks on log beehive making, habitat building, natural beehives and much more.
Know of a wild honey bee colony in Inishowen living in a tree, roof, chimney etc?
