A great weekend with lots of exchange of information. This is what the event was all about. We started of on the saturday with 4 different speakers. Trish Murphy spoke about the current state of our water and the impact it has on pollinators. This talk was followed by Steven Meyen from Teagasc who discussed the importance of proper hedgerows and trees maintenance. After some lunch we delved in to the current Bee research that is ongoing in Ireland. Grace McCormack and Alex Valentine from Nuig explained the importance of protecting the native Irish honeybee. All three topics lead to some interesting discussions within the group. After a good old fashioned bbq everyone sat down for Michael Thiele from Apis Arborea based in America, who shed light on the work he and his organisation is doing over there.
The following day we continued with demonstrations on log hive making where Adam Wright and ourselves showed how to hollow out tree trunks. Matt Somerville from Beekindhives in the UK gave a demonstration on the making of hackles where everyone had a go.
All in all a brilliant brilliant 2 day event.
